Government Claims 2026 Eid Homecoming is Smooth and Accidents Decrease
JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Pratikno ensures that the implementation of the 2026 Lebaran homecoming flow runs smoothly, safely, and under control, even though the number of travelers has increased compared to the previous year.
He said that the high mobility of the community during the Lebaran period was able to be managed well thanks to cross-sectoral synergy and the use of technology in traffic arrangements.
"The homecoming flow runs smoothly and safely. Compared to last year, the number of travelers increased, but the number of accidents actually decreased," said Pratikno in his statement in Jakarta, Thursday, March 26.
Based on the data collected, the number of accidents during the homecoming period was recorded to have decreased by around 16% compared to 2025, from 31 incidents to 26 incidents. This decline shows that the management of the homecoming flow is becoming more effective in maintaining public safety.
Pratikno explained that the peak of the homecoming flow occurred on Tuesday, March 18 or H-3 Lebaran with a vehicle volume of 270,315 units, an increase of around 4.6 percent compared to the previous year. Overall, the number of vehicles leaving Jakarta reached around 2.52 million units or an increase of 0.9 percent.
This data is in line with the records of the 2026 Integrated Eid Transportation Center Post which show a surge in movement occurring in various modes of transportation simultaneously.
On H-3 Lebaran, the highest number of passengers was recorded on the crossing transport with 403,883 people, followed by 401,238 passengers on trains, 311,836 passengers on air transport, and 232,016 passengers on land transport.
According to Pratikno, this achievement is the result of cross-sectoral coordination that prioritizes data-based rapid response. "All of this is thanks to the cooperation of all parties who are able to anticipate and respond quickly, supported by technology such as CCTV, intelligent transport systems, and data analysis," he explained.
Entering the reverse flow phase, the government recorded a more positive trend. The peak of the reverse flow occurred earlier on Monday (24/3/2026) or H+3 with a vehicle volume of around 256,338 units, down 5.9% compared to the previous year. This shows that the distribution of the reverse flow is more even.
Meanwhile, the number of vehicles returning to Jakarta reached around 1.96 million units or increased by around 6% compared to last year.
However, Pratikno reminded the importance of maintaining the momentum of managing the reverse flow so that it remains optimal until the end of the Lebaran period. "We invite all officials to remain focused and continue to work hard based on data," he said.
He also appealed to the public to arrange travel time early to avoid congestion at the peak of the return flow.
"We invite the public not to wait for the peak of the return flow on March 28 and 29. Start back early and take advantage of the toll rate discount on March 26 and 27 so that the journey goes more smoothly," he said.
The government is optimistic that with the collaboration between the authorities and the community, the return flow of Lebaran 2026 can take place more safely, orderly, and under control. Pratikno also expressed his appreciation to all parties involved in security and homecoming services.
"Thank you to the TNI, Polri, Ministry of Transportation, and SOEs who have worked hard to serve the community during the Lebaran period," he concluded.
