Trump asks for peace, Iran has reviewed but rejected a number of conditions

JAKARTA - A senior Iranian official said on Thursday 26 March that the peace plan sent by US President Donald Trump has been reviewed.

"It was reviewed in detail on Wednesday night by senior Iranian officials and representatives of the Supreme Leader of Iran" but was considered unilateral and unacceptable," an Iranian official said, speaking on condition of anonymity to Reuters.

Yesterday, local media in the Islamic Republic said the Iranian government had rejected a number of peace terms to end the war that Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu started.

There are 15 points in the US peace proposal that was conveyed to Iran through an intermediary, Pakistan. Points in the proposal include Iran being prohibited from having nuclear weapons until it is not allowed to enrich uranium and surrender what has been upgraded.

"In short, the proposal shows that Iran will give up its ability to defend itself in exchange for an unclear plan to lift sanctions," the Iranian official said.

"There is still no agreement for negotiations, and there are no plans for talks that seem realistic at this stage," he continued.

The official added that Turkey and Pakistan are currently working to "build a meeting point between Iran and the US in reducing differences."
