It's Best to Avoid, These Breakfast Habits That Can Damage the Heart
JAKARTA - Habits that are done every morning can affect heart health. One of the habits is related to unhealthy breakfast.
Breakfast is generally one of the important meal times for overall body health. However, if the food consumed is unhealthy, it can actually have bad consequences for organs, especially the heart.
If you are used to having breakfast with high-salt or sodium foods, then you should stop. High sodium is usually hidden in nuggets, sausages, bread, and other ultra-processed foods, which are often used as breakfast menus.
Heart expert, Robert Segel, MD, said that high-salt foods increase blood pressure. This condition can be fatal to heart health.
"High sodium intake causes the body to retain fluid, increase blood pressure, and increase the risk of heart failure," said Segel, quoted from Eating Well, Thursday, March 26, 2026.
Research also shows that people who eat high sodium have a 19 percent lower risk of cardiovascular disease, compared to those who eat low sodium.
Excess sodium intake can interfere with the blood pressure regulating system (renin-angiotensin). This will make the heart work harder to pump blood.
In addition, foods such as nuggets, sausages, and bread are also low in fiber. In fact, the body needs fiber intake that helps protect against heart disease and diabetes.
Thus, it is recommended to choose a healthy morning meal intake. Starting from oatmeal, fruits such as apples, pears, bananas, whole grains, to nuts.
