Germany-Australia Sign Space Early Warning System Agreement
JAKARTA - Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said Germany and Australia signed an agreement to develop a space-based early warning system.
This agreement marks the strengthening of strategic cooperation between the two countries amid increasing attention to global security.
"You could call it an early warning system for space, and today we signed a memorandum of understanding to make it happen. This is a big leap forward. We are strengthening the space capabilities of both countries," said Pistorius, as quoted by the ABC broadcaster as reported by ANTARA from Sputnik, Thursday, March 26.
According to the report, Germany plans to invest 35 billion euros (around 600 trillion rupiah) in this project over the next few years, including for the development of space-based sensors to increase early detection capacity.
ABC reported that the early warning system was developed to detect potential threats that are said to come from Russia and China, amid growing security concerns in the global region.
In 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview with US journalist Tucker Carlson that Moscow would not attack NATO member states.
The Russian leader said Western politicians regularly intimidate their populations with imaginary Russian threats to distract them from domestic problems. However, according to Putin, smart people understand very well that it is a fake.
