DKI's SDA Arranges 1,200 More Pumps and Speeds Up Dredging to Anticipate Floods
JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government through the Water Resources Service (SDA) has strengthened its steps to anticipate potential flooding in the midst of extreme weather. Efforts are focused on the readiness of flood control infrastructure to accelerate the dredging of water bodies.
Head of the DKI Jakarta Water Resources Service Ika Agustin Ningrum said all ranks were on standby to face heavy rain.
"We ensure that all flood control devices can function optimally, both before, during, and after heavy rainfall. Flood mitigation is a collaborative effort that requires speed, accuracy, and readiness of infrastructure," said Ika in Jakarta, Thursday, March 26.
DKI's SDA has alerted various flood control facilities, ranging from stationary pumps, mobile pumps, to floodgates. These devices are prepared to work in the pre-flood phase until the handling of puddles takes place.
Based on data as of March 13, 2026, there are 668 stationary pumps spread across 243 points. In addition, there are 537 mobile pump units located in five administrative areas. Mobile pumps are functional to reach puddles in locations that are not served by stationary pumps.
On the other hand, the optimization of drainage capacity is carried out through dredging rivers, rivers, reservoirs, dams, to ponds. From January 1 to March 13, 2026, the volume of dredging has reached 123,393 cubic meters in five administrative city areas.
This activity continues the efforts throughout 2025 which recorded a total dredging of 919,173 cubic meters. To support this work, SDA deployed hundreds of heavy equipment, consisting of 260 units of excavators and 465 units of dump trucks.
"The SDA Service also alerted the Task Force (Satgas) or Blue Force, which is ready to move when a flood occurs. They are tasked with supporting pump operations and ensuring that puddles can be handled quickly. In addition, the Blue Force routinely monitors the field to keep conditions under control," he added.
