Ministry of Energy Applies WFH and Cuts Operations, Anticipates Global Energy Crisis

JAKARTA - Minister of Culture Fadli Zon has started tightening efficiency in the Ministry of Culture (Kemenbud). Starting April 1, 2026, this ministry will implement a flexible work pattern, limit the use of electronic devices and official vehicles, and reduce ceremonial activities to reduce energy consumption in the midst of global pressure.

The instruction was conveyed by Fadli Zon in an online meeting with the ranks of officials of the Ministry of Culture in Jakarta, Wednesday, March 25, 2026. This policy is said to be a response to the economic turmoil and the threat of a world energy crisis which is considered to be able to disrupt the government's program.

Fadli said the President had asked all ministries and agencies to move quickly to save on consumption. At the Ministry of Culture, this was translated into a work from home scheme one day every week, budget efficiency, and encouragement to use more energy-efficient energy.

According to Fadli, adjustments to work patterns should not reduce the quality of public services. Online and offline services, said Fadli, must remain equal. Therefore, the implementation of the Electronic-Based Government System is also encouraged so that efficiency does not stop at cost reduction, but also improves the way bureaucracy works.

Menbud Fadli emphasized that this policy was born out of an urgent need, not a mere administrative step. Reducing mobility is considered important because fuel consumption is still a vital factor that can trigger a chain effect on the performance of the ministry.

The efficiency is also directed to shift routine spending to programs that have a more direct impact on cultural preservation. "I wish the best, but I also have to prepare for the worst scenario," said Fadli.

The policy is contained in the Circular Letter of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture Number 5 of 2026 concerning the implementation of civil service duties flexibly for employees in the context of energy efficiency. The Ministry will evaluate its implementation after two months.
