Kylian Mbappe Straightens out about Real Madrid's MRI Examination Related to His Knee Injury

Kylian Mbappe has denied reports that his knee injury was misdiagnosed after Real Madrid's medical staff mistakenly examined the wrong knee while trying to treat the problem.

A French journalist from RMC Sport - followed by a number of Spanish media - claimed on Tuesday, March 24, local time, that Real Madrid failed to identify a partial ligament tear in his left knee in December 2025, when they scanned his healthy right knee.

Mbappe played three games with the team before being diagnosed with the injury. Los Blancos released a medical report confirming a knee sprain on December 31, 2025, followed by an update this month after he traveled to Paris for a second opinion, which kept him out for more than three weeks.

"The information that (Real Madrid) checked the wrong knee is not true. Maybe I bear some indirect responsibility for this situation."

"The reason is, when you don't communicate about what you are experiencing and what is happening, it opens the door to interpretation. Everyone rushes to fill the void."

"Now, with Real Madrid, we always have a pretty clear communication, whether it's when I started rehabilitation in Madrid, or when I was in Paris, where I was accompanied by the club's doctors, physiotherapists, and physical trainers, which we worked from Paris. So, there's no problem with that."

"We are at a crucial moment in the season. The team has played well without me. When I was injured, I was not available and people thought I was the only solution, but it's not like that. The important thing is the team," Mbappe said on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, local time while on international duty with the French National Team in preparation for the friendly match against Brazil.

Mbappe first suffered the injury against Celta Vigo on December 7, 2025, but then played three games before the end of 2025 - against Alaves, Talavera, and Sevilla - before his knee injury was confirmed.

After missing almost the entire Supercopa de Espana (Spanish Super Cup), he then played in a series of matches in January and February 2026, before Real Madrid said that a meeting with the French national team doctor had confirmed that the conservative treatment they had chosen was the right one.

After the break, he returned to the team as a substitute in last week's second leg of the Champions League against Manchester City and then last weekend's derby against Atletico Madrid.

"I have never been someone - neither as a person nor as a player - who lives with regrets. I focus on the present and the near future."

"Right now, I feel good, especially with my knees, which is important for me. That is partly thanks to my club, who have taken good care of my fitness."

"I'm very happy to be here, ready to play, and in great shape. I'm ready to play (against Brazil) and to be a starter if needed," Mbappe said, as reported by ESPN.

Earlier this week, Mbappe told Spanish media, AS, that some things had not been said about the knee injury that limited his involvement for Real Madrid in recent weeks.
