Meta Cuts Hundreds of Employees in Five Divisions Globally
JAKARTA - Meta again cut the number of employees. This time, the Job Termination (PHK) will affect hundreds of workers in a number of divisions.
Launching from Bloomberg, some of the affected divisions include Sales, Recruitment, Reality Labs, and two others. This employee reduction will take place in the United States and other countries that are not yet known.
According to reports circulating, this efficiency is carried out so that Meta remains in a position that is good enough to achieve its long-term goals. Even though the number of employees is reduced, Meta still offers other alternatives to affected employees.
"If possible, we are looking for other opportunities (such as moving locations or filling other vacant positions) for employees whose positions may be affected," a Meta spokesperson said, as reported by TechCrunch on Thursday, March 25.
If calculated from the total number of employees, this time's pruning is relatively small. Meta has cut less than 1,000 of its staff, while the total number of employees of the company reached almost 79,000 by the end of 2025.
This is the second wave of layoffs carried out by the technology giant since entering 2026. Previously in January, Meta reduced 10 percent of its employees working in the metaverse development division.
The layoffs come at a time when Meta is focusing on developing Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. The company, which oversees Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, has invested 135 billion US dollars (Rp. 2.281 trillion), the highest capital expenditure this year.
