Sumatera Disaster Recovery Enters Rehabilitation Phase

Jakarta - The recovery of disasters in Sumatra entered the post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction phase, starting April 1, 2026.

This step was taken after the emergency transition period towards recovery was targeted to end on March 30, 2026.

Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Suharyanto, said that the rehabilitation and reconstruction phase would focus on the construction of permanent housing and permanent infrastructure for affected communities.

This was conveyed by Suharyanto at a press conference at the Bina Graha Building, Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday, March 25. In the implementation of permanent housing (huntap), the government has recorded that around 36 thousand units of houses will be built by BNPB together with the Ministry of Housing and Settlements (PKP).

BNPB also implements two development schemes, namely self-development by the community with the help of funds and direct development by the government. If the community wants to build itself, the assistance value of Rp. 60 million, then the funds will be given in two stages, namely Rp. 30 million in the initial stage.

BNPB will also provide technical guidance. Suharyanto emphasized that the construction of houses by individuals must meet the technical standards that have been set. The goal is that the houses built are habitable and more resistant to disasters.
