YOGYAKARTA - The Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) Satpol PP recorded at least six tourists survived a maritime accident in the southern DIY beach area during the 2026 Lebaran holiday.
Head of the DIY Satpol PP Bagas Senoadji said the incident occurred at a number of vulnerable rip current points, such as at Parangtritis Beach and Depok Beach, Bantul Regency, and Drini Beach, Gunungkidul Regency.
"At Parangtritis and Depok Beach, four people were rescued, then at Drini Beach two people were rescued," said Bagas, quoted by Antara, Thursday, March 26.
According to Bagas, a number of other incidents also occurred in the southern coastal area of DIY during the Lebaran holiday period.
At Parangtritis Beach, Bantul Regency, he noted that one tourist was stung by a jellyfish and had received medical treatment.
Then at Kukup Beach, Gunungkidul Regency, one tourist was bitten by a piglet and was also handled by medical officers.
Meanwhile, at Wedi Ombo Beach, Gunungkidul Regency, one person was reported to have been injured by a coral.
At Baron Beach, Gunungkidul Regency, a fishing boat was hit by waves, but three fishermen were rescued.
Bagas said that during the Lebaran holiday, 328 personnel from the Special Rescue Satlinmas (SRI) were on alert to carry out security along the southern coast of DIY.
According to him, the presence of SRI personnel plays an important role in efforts to prevent and quickly handle incidents in coastal areas.
He appealed to tourists visiting the south coast of DIY to increase vigilance, especially when they are in the water.
"For tourists to be careful when traveling by water on the south coast of DIY, watch over children and families and obey the appeals of SRI officers," said Bagas.
However, tourists are still allowed to play in the water on the beach as long as they are in an area that has been declared safe by officers.
"It must be in a safe area or area that has been determined by SRI officers," he said.
