The Nonsensical Murder Of 3 Nurses In Mexico

MEXICO - Different countries, different treatment of medical workers who are the last line of defense against the SARS-CoV-2 virus that triggers the corona virus. In Indonesia, medical personnel are receiving five-star service. But that's not the case in Mexico.

Data from the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University (JHU), until Saturday, May 9, there were 31,522 positive cases of COVID-19 in Mexico. This figure has made Mexico into the top 20 countries on the planet that have the most positive cases of COVID-19.

But the medical personnel in that country are nervous. Not yet over the discriminatory treatment from residents, the latest news has emerged. Three nurses, all women, were found dead with signs of strangulation in the northern region of Coahuila state, as reported by globalnews.

The three women work in Mexican government hospitals. Two of them are nurses for the Mexican Social Security Institute. And another one, a hospital administrator.

To date, there is no direct evidence that the attack was related to their work. Prosecutors told local media that the motive might have been robbery.

State police found the bodies at a house in the city of Torreon. The Social Security Agency said they were killed on Thursday, May 7. The National Social Security Workers Union called the killings a "outrageous and incomprehensible case."

"Until now there has been no evidence to suggest these killings were due to their work in the health sector. The public is very sorry and I restate the state's determination to find those guilty and bring them to justice," said Coahuila State Attorney General Gerardo Marquez.

This murder case seems to be the culmination of a series of attacks on health workers during the corona virus pandemic. The nurses were beaten, kicked from public transport or doused with cleaning fluid. Residents who 'fail to understand' worry that the medical team will spread the corona virus to them.

Mexican health authorities have indeed condemned the attack. And they can't do anything. It has even advised medics not to wear uniforms on the streets to avoid attacks.
