BYD Accident at HI Roundabout, Police Say Grab Car Driver Who Has Only Been Driving Electric Cars for 3 Months

JAKARTA - A black BYD electric car with the number B-1276-UNT had a single accident in the Bundaran HI area, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, March 25, 2026.

Based on the CCTV footage at the location, the black electric car was speeding from the direction of Sudirman.

Then the car hit the curb of the fountain roundabout of the Hotel Indonesia (HI) area and fell into the water pool.

Fortunately, the driver of the car with the initials KJS managed to save himself after his car was stuck in the HI roundabout pond. The accident was allegedly caused by the driver of the car being drunk.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Traffic Police's Criminal Investigation Unit, AKBP Ojo Ruslani, explained that from the results of the crime scene investigation (TKP) carried out by his party, the BYD ME 8 series car driven by KJS was traveling on MH Thamrin Street in the direction of North Central Jakarta.

"Upon arrival at the crime scene, namely at the roundabout of Hotel Indonesia, allegedly due to lack of caution, the driver of the BYD ME 8 vehicle hit the road divider," said AKBP Ojo Ruslani when confirmed by VOI.

The BYD car then bounced and entered the Bundaran Hotel Indonesia pool. As a result of the accident, the vehicles involved suffered damage.

"The cause of the accident was due to the driver's negligence or carelessness. The person concerned is the driver of the grab car. He has only been driving the car for 3 months," he said.

Currently, the black BYD electric car has been secured to the Subdit Gakkum Ditlantas Polda Metro Jaya for further examination. Meanwhile, the driver of the BYD is still undergoing a urine test.
