Ferry Boat on Nyaris Island Nearly Drowned Due to Engine Damage, 61 Passengers Evacuated
JAKARTA - The wooden boat KM Sumber Makmur, which contains 61 passengers, almost sank in the waters northwest of Lancang Island, Pari Island Village, South Thousand Islands District, Thousand Islands, North Jakarta.
Dozens of passengers on an inter-island ferry were suddenly panicked when the ship they were on almost sank.

The incident caused panic among a number of passengers. The KM Sumber Makmur ship was led by a man with the initials S.
"After receiving the report, we immediately headed to the location and evacuated 61 passengers," he said.
The evacuation process was carried out by 9 rescue personnel together with the Police, Satpol PP and other officers.
The evacuation process lasted for 1 hour because the conditions at the location had strong winds and big waves.
"The chronology initially, the ship departed from Panggang Island to the rawasaban port. However, in the middle of the journey, the vanbelt of the ship's engine broke and the bilge pump drive engine died," he said.
There were no casualties or injuries due to the incident. The evacuation was completed, all passengers were evacuated to the island to be checked for health.
"The evacuation is complete, the damkar team can handle it in a safe and controlled state," he said.
