Google Gemini Can 'Steal' ChatGPT History? Here's How!
JAKARTA - The AI competition is getting hotter: Google is secretly preparing a feature that can make users switch from ChatGPT without having to start from scratch.
Through the Google Gemini chatbot, Google is reportedly developing a migration tool that allows users to import conversation history up to personal "memories" from other AI platforms.
This finding comes from the decompilation of the latest version of the Google app code, which indicates the existence of a cross-platform data transfer system - a step that could significantly change the dynamics of AI competition.
Moving AI Without Losing “Digital Memory”One of the biggest problems when switching to AI is the loss of context. Users usually take a long time to "train" the chatbot to understand the style of language, work, and personal preferences.
Gemini's new feature tries to remove that barrier through two main stages.
The first stage is "memory transfer". Here, Gemini will provide a special prompt that must be entered into an old chatbot such as ChatGPT. The chatbot then summarizes all important information about the user - from interests to background - which is then copied to Gemini.
The second stage is the full import of chat history. Users can upload a conversation file in .zip format with a maximum limit of 5GB. With this, Gemini can theoretically "remember" old conversations and continue the interaction without a total reset.
This step is clearly aimed at the "lock-in" effect that has made users reluctant to switch platforms because all data and habits are embedded in one ecosystem.
Google apparently does not want to lose to other players. Previously, Anthropic had also previously introduced a similar feature in the Claude chatbot.
Even so, there is no certainty when this feature will be officially released. Like many other features found through APK teardown, Google could still be testing it for months - or even cancel it.
