Crunchyroll Anime Streaming Service Hacked, Millions of Customer Ticket Data Leaked

Crunchyroll, an anime streaming app, confirmed that data involving customer service tickets had been leaked. This statement was made after someone claimed to have hacked the company.

The hacker said that he managed to enter Crunchyroll's internal systems and the company's third-party vendors. Now, the Sony-owned company is conducting an investigation with leading cybersecurity experts.

In the results of the interim investigation, Crunchyroll has not found any evidence of unauthorized access that is still running within their system. However, initial reports indicate that hackers may have accessed data through the Zendesk customer support system.

The screenshot circulating shows support data and internal Slack messages allegedly belonging to Crunchyroll employees. The illegal access is allegedly originating from one of the support agent accounts at Telus Digital that was hacked.

As a result of this hack, millions of customer ticket data recorded until the beginning of 2025 were stolen. The hackers also claimed that they had downloaded about eight million ticket records from the Crunchyroll system database.

In the data, it is estimated that there are 6.8 million email addresses belonging to customers in various parts of the world. From the technical report, this security breach was carried out through the Okta single sign-on account of a support staff on March 12.

Until now, the claim regarding the amount of data stolen has not been verified by the authorities. Telus Digital, as a customer support outsourcing partner, has also not given an official comment regarding the incident.

To prevent more data leaks, Crunchyroll has revoked all suspicious access identified in the internal network. The company is committed to providing the latest information as the investigation progresses.
