The Government Says the 2026 Lebaran Reverse Current Occurs in Two Waves
JAKARTA - Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi predicts that the peak of the 2026 Lebaran land transport return flow will occur in two waves, namely on March 24-25 and will increase again on March 28-29, 2026.
Dudy explained that the first spike occurred because commuters were chasing the time to go to work after the Lebaran holiday. Meanwhile, the next wave was triggered by people who took advantage of the work from anywhere (WFA) policy.
According to him, the government has prepared various strategies to anticipate congestion, including the implementation of traffic engineering such as one way nationwide.
He emphasized that the one-way policy would be implemented on a situational basis if there was a significant increase in density on the main route, in order to ensure that people's travel remained smooth and safe.
In addition, the WFA policy is considered to make the reverse flow movement more spread. This can be seen from the traffic conditions on the toll road which is relatively controlled and does not accumulate at a certain time.
The government is also aware of a number of vulnerable points, such as rest areas, by implementing a system of opening and closing and restricting the operation of heavy vehicles with three axles.
"So our hope is, like imposing a national one-way, is to help people who are doing a return flow to be able to do it smoothly and the most important thing is to get to the destination safely," concluded Dudy.
