Bogor Origin Tourist Dies While Saving Child at Tasikmalaya Beach

TASIKAMALAYA - A tourist from Bogor drowned while trying to help save a small child who was carried away by the waves at Padabumi Beach, Cikalong District, Tasikmalaya Regency, West Java, Tuesday, March 24.

Head of the Cikalong Police, AKP Maman, confirmed the sea accident that befell Iyep Yudiana (47), a civil servant in Bogor who was on vacation during the Lebaran holiday in Tasikmalaya.

"It is true that a marine accident occurred where one visitor drowned," said Maman as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, March 25.

He said the incident began when a small child who was swimming on the beach was almost carried away by the waves.

The victim, who was in the vicinity, immediately tried to help the child so that he would not be carried away by the waves, but instead became a drowning victim.

The joint Search and Rescue team who knew about the incident immediately provided assistance and managed to evacuate the victim for further medical treatment.

"Iyep Yudiana was declared dead, while the rescued child managed to escape death and was rushed to KHZ Musthafa Hospital," he said.

He said, the police along with other agencies have continued to patrol to provide warnings and appeals to beach visitors to always be vigilant and not swim too far.

"The public is urged to be vigilant when traveling. Follow the prohibition and warning signs," he said.

The Tasikmalaya Police have set up a post and personnel to help anticipate marine accidents during the Lebaran holiday.
