Controversy over the Change in Status of Prisoner Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, DPR asks KPK to explain in detail

Member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Abdullah, said the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) must explain in detail about the controversy over the transfer of the detention of suspects in the alleged corruption case of the haj quota, which is the former Minister of Religion, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas.

He assessed that there were still many questions that had to be explained to the public. The KPK, he said, must be open to the process of transferring prisoners from detention houses (jails) to house detention, then back to detention houses.

"The process of transferring prisoners from the detention center to house arrest and back to the detention center is not sufficiently explained because there is a request from the family," said Abdullah as reported by Antara, on Tuesday, March 24.

According to him, the anti-corruption agency must also explain the supervision carried out when Yaqut was under house arrest. Don't let, he said, the response that is carried out is only because there is public scrutiny.

"So that the term no viral no justice that is now circulating in the community can be avoided," he said.

Previously, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) revealed the reason for returning Yaqutke to the state detention house or detention center after the suspect in the alleged corruption case of the haj quota became a house prisoner.

"First, because tomorrow there is a scheduled request for information to the person concerned," said Deputy Head of the KPK's Enforcement and Execution Department Asep Guntur Rahayu at the KPK's Red and White Building, Jakarta, Tuesday.

Meanwhile, on March 17, 2026, Yaqut's family appealed to the KPK to make the former Minister of Religion a house arrest. The KPK then granted the request, and Yaqut has been under house arrest since March 19, 2026.

On March 23, 2026, the KPK announced that it was processing the transfer of Yaqut's detention from house arrest to prison detention. On March 24, 2026, Yaqut arrived at the KPK Red and White Building to then become a prison inmate.
