Joint Team Evacuates 61 People from KM Sumber Makmur who Died of Engine Failure on Lancang Island

JAKARTA - A joint team evacuated dozens of passengers from the KM Sumber Makmur ship because the engine died so that it was tossed and turned in the waters of the Northwest of Lancang Island, Pari Island Village, Thousand Islands Regency, Tuesday morning.

"In total, there were 61 passengers and one ship captain who were evacuated by joint officers," said Kasiops Suku of the North Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Sudin Gulkarmat) and Gatot Sulaeman of the Thousand Islands in Jakarta, Antara, Tuesday, March 24.

He said the wooden boat with the hull name KM Sumber Makmur, which was piloted by a man named Sadam, carried 61 passengers from Panggang Island to Rawabasan Port.

While on the way, the engine "vanbelt" broke and caused the engine to drive the "bilge pump" to die.

"This condition causes seawater to enter the hull of the ship which submerges the main engine of the ship and causes panic," he said.

Then, a passenger contacted the damkar officer of Lancang Island post and the officer used the Blue Satria 08 boat from Lancang Island to the location of the incident.

According to him, because the number of victims was large, officers prepared 76 rescue boats at Pari Island Post.

He said officers received information at 08.15 WIB and went to the scene.

The evacuation began at 08.42 WIB and all passengers were successfully evacuated at 09.45 WIB.

According to him, in carrying out the evacuation, the obstacles experienced in the field were big waves and strong winds.

"Evacuation was completed and all passengers were evacuated to Lancang Island for health checks," he said.
