BMKG: North Sulawesi Region Potentially Extreme Weather Until Sunday
MANADO - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that several districts and cities in North Sulawesi have the potential for extreme weather until Sunday, March 29.
"Be alert to the potential for moderate to heavy rain that may be accompanied by lightning/thunder and strong winds, as well as an increase in daily rainfall accumulation," said Coordinator for Operational Affairs of the Sam Ratulangi Meteorological Station, Manado, Karina Husna, in Manado, Antara, Tuesday, March 24.
He explained that there was a tropical cyclone Narelle on the north coast of Australia that attracted air masses around the North Sulawesi region.
In general, the value of sea surface temperature anomalies in the range of -2 to +2 degrees Celsius in the Sulawesi Sea is potentially conducive to the addition of water vapor mass.
Furthermore, the SOI value of +12.9 has an effect on the increase in convective patterns in some areas of central and eastern Indonesia, especially the North Sulawesi region.
Kelvin waves contribute to increased air lability in the North Sulawesi region, while strong local lability indices support the growth of convective clouds in some areas.
Karina explained the potential for extreme weather in the North Bolaang Mongondow Regency and South Bolaang Mongondow Regency.
On Wednesday (25/3), it is estimated that it will occur in the Bitung City area, Minahasa Regency and North Minahasa Regency, while on Thursday (26/3) it can occur in the Talaud Islands Regency.
On Friday (27/3), it is likely to occur in Bitung City, Minahasa Regency and South Minahasa Regency, while on Saturday (28/3) and Sunday (29/3) it is estimated to occur in Bolaang Mongondow Regency, East Bolaang Mongondow Regency, North Bolaang Mongondow Regency and South Bolaang Mongondow Regency.
