Garbage Burning Leads to Disaster, House of Residents in Malinau Across Ludes Burned
MALINAU - The Malinau Regency Police and Fire Service (Damkar) handled the fire of a residential unit in Malinau Seberang Village, North Malinau District, which was allegedly triggered by waste burning activities.
The Secretary of the Malinau Regency Satpol PP and Damkar Office, Rolland Rudyanto, said that his party received a report of a fire on Jalan Maharaja Dinda, RT 08, at 00.31 Wita.
"We received a report of a fire at 00.31 Wita," he said in Malinau, Antara, Tuesday, March 24.
The officers then moved quickly to the location at 00.34 Wita and arrived three minutes later, at 00.37 Wita.
Based on information from local residents, the fire is suspected to have started from the activity of burning garbage carried out by the owner of the house.
"At the time of the incident, the owner of the house was at the place and the house was inhabited alone by the owner of the house who is 53 years old," said Rolland.
Residents who knew about the incident immediately reported it to the Damkar officers for handling.
He said there were no casualties in the incident, but one house unit, which was mostly made of wood, was damaged by the fire.
To put out the fire, the Satpol PP and Damkar Malinau Regency Offices deployed 30 personnel with the support of three fire trucks, one water supply car, and one rescue car with a portable engine.
"The blackout and cooling lasted about one hour and 15 minutes," he said.
His party appealed to the public to be more careful in carrying out waste burning activities to prevent fires, especially in residential areas with flammable buildings.
