PM Starmer Says There Is No Assessment That Shows Britain Is a Target of Iran

JAKARTA - British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday said there was no assessment that the British mainland was the target of an Iranian attack.

"We make assessments all the time to keep us safe, and there is no assessment that indicates that we are being targeted in that way," said PM Starmer, launching Al Arabiya from Reuters (23/3).

PM Starmer was asked if Britain could be targeted by Iran after reports at the weekend that Iran had fired two ballistic missiles at the US-UK military base of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.

PM Starmer also said that any attempt to reopen the Strait of Hormuz requires careful consideration and a viable plan, and its main priority is to protect British interests and ease tensions.

It is known that Israel and the US launched a joint attack on Iran on February 28, which killed about 1,300 people to date, including the then Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, hostilities have escalated.

Iran has retaliated with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US military assets. Iran has also effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz since early March.
