US Claims Military Operation on Kharg Island Can Defeat Iran

JAKARTA - The United States is reportedly considering a ground military operation to seize Kharg Island in Iran, as it accelerates the deployment of troops to the region.

Previously, an Axios report on March 20 said US President Donald Trump was ready to take over Kharg Island to pressure Tehran to open shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz.

A US official said the military had accelerated the deployment of thousands of Marine and Navy personnel to the Middle East.

Meanwhile, on March 22, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said all options were still open and did not rule out sending troops to the island.

As is known, the US and Israel on February 28 launched an attack on a number of targets in Iran, including in Tehran, which caused damage and civilian casualties.

Iran then retaliated by attacking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East.
