Safe and Free Homecoming with Precision, Boni: Real Form of Police Transformation

JAKARTA - Political analyst Boni Hargens considers the 2026 Polri Precision Free Homecoming program to be proof of the transformation of the police institution under the leadership of National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

According to Boni, the program is not just a ceremonial activity, but reflects a change in the paradigm of the National Police from a power approach to a servant approach.

"This program shows a fundamental institutional cultural transformation, from a power approach to a service that is felt directly by the community," Boni told reporters, Monday (23/3).

He said that through the free homecoming program, the National Police also helped ease the burden of the community while ensuring that the journey was safe and orderly. Homecoming and return traffic security was also carried out thoroughly, ranging from traffic management to the provision of information services.

Boni assessed that the change was not just symbolic, but reflected a fundamental shift in the way the National Police interpreted its duty as a public servant.

"The approach to service places the police as a protector and guardian of the community, not just a holder of authority," he said.

He also assessed that the leadership of the National Police Chief had succeeded in translating the PRESISI vision into policies that directly impacted the community.

"The Free Homecoming Program is one concrete proof of how modern police can maintain order while providing real benefits," he said.

On that occasion, Boni also highlighted the death of a member of the Metro Jaya Police Traffic Directorate, Brigadier General Fajar Permana, while on duty to secure the homecoming flow.

According to him, the incident reflects the dedication and sacrifice of the Polri personnel in carrying out their duties to serve the community.

"The death of Brigadier General Fajar is a reminder that the security that the community feels is inseparable from the sacrifices of the officers in the field," said Boni.

Furthermore, Boni assessed that the transformation of the National Police also contributed to strengthening the concept of society policing, namely the partnership between the police and the community in maintaining security.

He added, within the framework of the integrated criminal justice system, the National Police has a strategic role as the initial door of law enforcement.

"The quality of police performance will determine the quality of the overall judicial process," he said.

Boni assessed that the changes made by the National Police had the potential to increase public confidence on an ongoing basis. He emphasized the importance of maintaining consistency, transparency, and accountability so that this trust continues to grow.

"The foundation for transformation has been laid. The challenge is to maintain consistency so that the National Police is increasingly trusted and close to the community," he said.
