KAI Serves 242,773 Passengers of Long-Distance Trains in a Day with an Occupancy of 150.7 Percent

JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded the sale of tickets for the 2026 Lebaran Transportation continued to show a positive trend as it entered the return flow period.

As of March 23, 2026 at 09.00 WIB, tickets that have been sold reached 4,028,839 tickets or 89.6 percent of the total 4,498,696 seats provided for long-distance train and local train travel in the period from March 11 to April 1, 2026. With this achievement, there are still 469,857 seats that can be used by the public for the return flow.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said this increase in sales showed that people's confidence in trains continued to strengthen as a choice for Lebaran travel.

"The trend of traveling by train has continued to increase since mid-March and is now entering the reverse flow phase. People use trains because they are more comfortable and scheduled," said Anne, Monday, March 23.

On the long-distance train service, he continued, ticket sales have reached 3,507,988 tickets or 98.2 percent of the total 3,571,760 seats provided. This means that there are still 63,772 seats that can be booked by the public for the return journey.

Meanwhile, on the Local Train service managed by KAI, ticket sales were recorded at 520,851 tickets or 56.2 percent of the total 926,936 seats available. Thus, there are still 406,085 seats that customers can use.

"Local train ticket sales will generally continue to increase closer to the departure date because most new services can be booked starting from H-7," Anne continued.

During the Lebaran Transportation period, namely from March 11 to 22, 2026, KAI has served 2,131,656 customers of Long Distance Trains and 387,852 customers of Local Trains on Java and Sumatra, or a total of 2,519,508 customers. This achievement shows the increasing mobility of the community from day to day.

Along with this increase, the volume of customers and daily occupancy rate of Long Distance Trains on March 11-22, 2026 showed a trend that continued to move up. The peak occurred on March 22, 2026 with 242,773 customers or 150.7 percent of the available seating capacity.

Entering March 23, 2026, the movement of customers is still very high. Until the morning, at least 222,948 Long Distance Railway customers have been scheduled to depart with a temporary occupancy rate of 139.1 percent. This number is still potentially increasing as ticket sales continue.

Anne explained that the occupancy rate of more than 100 percent was possible due to the dynamic travel pattern in one series.

"In a long-distance train journey, one seat can be used by more than one customer on a different relationship. This scheme allows a greater number of customers to be served than the number of seats available in one journey," explained Anne.

In the midst of this high demand, a number of trains with high booking rates during the 2026 Lebaran Transportation period include the Airlangga Train, the Joglosemarkerto Train, the Sri Tanjung Train, the Bengawan Train, the Kahuripan Train, the Rajabasa Train, and the Jayakarta Train.

However, the public still has the opportunity to get tickets, especially for the return flow, through alternative relations, different departure schedules, and continuation travel schemes. KAI also urges customers to use connecting train services and choose a more flexible travel date so that the opportunity to get tickets is greater.

"With the capacity that is still available, KAI invites the public to immediately plan the return journey well so that the journey will be more comfortable, smooth, and enjoyable with the train," concluded Anne.
