Donald Trump Deploys ICE Amid Partial Airport Shutdown
JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump announced the deployment of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel starting this Monday to increase security at US airports following the partial government shutdown.
The more than 40-day government "shutdown" has affected the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), which is under DHS, the most affected.
TSA employees reportedly have not been paid for weeks.
"Starting Monday, ICE will be deployed to airports to help our incredible TSA agents who are steadfast in their duty despite the Radical Left Democrats...endangering the US by holding up long overdue money," Trump said via Truth Social.
The DHS previously stated that airports in the US were plagued by chaos due to the government shutdown, which caused security check queues for hours and flight delays at various airports.
"Airports from end to end of the US are experiencing major delays, security lines for HOURS, and missed flights," the DHS said via social media X, Sunday (22/3).
Like Trump, the DHS in its statement also blamed the Democratic Party as the root of the chaos caused by the government shutdown.
