Iran Attacks British Base in Indian Ocean, 5,000 Km from Tehran
JAKARTA - Iran reportedly launched an attack with two ballistic missiles on a British military base used by the United States on Diego Garcia Island, in the middle of the Indian Ocean.
The report cited Iran's Mehr news agency, which reported the attack without giving further details.
The distance from Tehran to the Diego Garcia base, which is located in the Chagos Archipelago, is known to exceed 5,000 kilometers.
Al Jazeera, citing media reports, said the attack on the very remote and remote area showed that Iran actually has missiles with a much greater range than its enemies previously believed.
Iran continues to carry out attacks on Israeli territory and US military targets in the Middle East in response to the two countries' joint attack on February 28.
On the first day of the military offensive, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed, then hundreds of schoolgirls at a primary school in southern Iran were killed after their school was attacked.
Previously, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said British Prime Minister Keir Starmer had put the lives of his citizens at risk by allowing British bases to be used for aggression against Iran.
"Most British people do not want to be involved in the Israel-US war of choice against Iran. By ignoring his own people, Starmer is endangering the lives of British citizens by allowing British bases to be used for aggression against Iran. Iran will use its right to defend itself," Araghchi wrote on X.
The statement came after the British government on Friday (20/3) agreed to use British bases by the US for attacks on Iranian missile sites.
