Janice Tjen Eliminated by Yulia Putintseva in the Second Round of the Miami Open

JAKARTA - Indonesian women's tennis player Janice Tjen was eliminated by Yulia Putintseva from Kazakhstan in the second round, or the 128th round of the Miami Open played at the Hard Rock Stadium, Florida, Friday.

Janice, who is currently ranked 40th in the world, was defeated by Putintseva in a three-set battle with a score of 6-3, 3-6, 4-6.

After Janice won the first set with a convincing score, Putintseva, who is from Kazkhstan, was able to change the situation in the second set. He managed to break Janice's serve, and then led with a score of 5-2.

Janice who got the opportunity to serve was able to resist the next game to change the score to 5-3 for Putintseva's advantage. However, Putintseva was then able to maximize his opportunity to serve, and closed the set with a score of 6-3.

At the beginning of the third set, both players fought hard to make the score even at 1-1.

The third game of the set then belonged to Putintseva, who managed to break Janice's serve due to a double fault he made. Putintseva now holds a 2-1 lead.

Putintseva again maximized his opportunity when serving. The fourth game of the third set was closed with a 3-1 lead for the world number 75.

Janice managed to bounce back in the fifth game. He maximized his serves and cut the score with Putintseva to fall behind 2-3.

In the next two games, both players got points when they got the serve opportunity. Putintseva then took a 4-3 lead.

The eighth game belonged to Putintseva. Moreover, he closed it with an ace through his serve, and increased the lead to 5-3.

Janice briefly delayed Putintseva's party when he won the ninth game of the set to cut the gap to 4-5. However, Putintseva was aggressive in the next set, and was quickly ahead 40-0, before closing the match with a second match point due to Janice's return ball going out of the field.

Even though he was eliminated in the women's singles category, Janice will still fight at the Miami Open through the women's doubles category. In that category, he will pair up with Taiwanese player Chan Hao-ching, and will face fourth-seeded pair Elise Mertens/Zhang Shuai on Saturday.
