Warner Music Group Collaborates with Netflix to Develop a Biography of a World Musician

JAKARTA - Netflix has officially entered into a strategic partnership with Warner Music Group (WMG) in an exclusive deal over the next few years to produce a series of films and documentaries that tell the stories of legendary artists and songwriters under the label's music label.

In this collaboration, WMG partnered with Unigram, a production house led by Amanda Ghost and Gregor Cameron, as a creative arm to develop long-running programs that will later be broadcast globally on Netflix.

WMG and Unigram are committed to developing each project by involving the cooperation of the artists concerned or their heirs to maintain the authenticity of the narrative.

Although no specific musician names have been announced to the public so far, the Warner Music Group catalog is known to be very massive, covering cross-generational legends such as Prince, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin, and Joni Mitchell, to current pop stars such as Ed Sheeran and Bruno Mars.

For WMG, this step is considered a strategic effort to maximize music intellectual property (IP) in the midst of the high interest of global audiences in music documentary-themed content.

WMG's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Robert Kyncl, stated that this collaboration is a gateway to expanding the exposure of their talents to a wider audience through Netflix's distribution infrastructure.

"The combination of Warner Music Group's intellectual property with Netflix's global reach is an incredible opportunity to introduce our artists and songwriters to new fans around the world," Kyncl said in a statement, quoted by Variety, Saturday, March 21.

In addition, Adam Del Deo as Vice President of Documentary Films & Series Netflix expressed his enthusiasm in welcoming the music catalog into their content library.

"We've seen how music inspires an incredible fan base on Netflix, so we're excited to partner with Warner Music Group and their world-class artists to bring even more unforgettable music stories to our members," said Adam.

This partnership also marks Amanda Ghost's role through Unigram, which has previously successfully worked on films such as The United States vs. Billie Holiday.

With Ghost's track record as an award-winning former songwriter and ex-label executive, this project is felt to be able to provide an in-depth perspective that goes beyond the usual biography.
