Withdraw Appeal, Keenan Nasution Wants to End the Question of "White Tones" with Vidi Aldiano
Minola Sebayang as the lawyer for Keenan Nasution and Rudi Pekerti, clarified his statement regarding the cassation process for alleged copyright infringement of the song "Nuansa Bening" by Vidi Aldiano.
Previously, the first stage of the trial had been passed, in which the Central Jakarta Commercial Court rejected Keenan and Rudi's civil lawsuit.
Not satisfied with the verdict, Keenan and Rudi appealed, which Minola said had been registered at the Supreme Court.
However, after stating that the cassation process continued because it had been registered, Minola stated that his client decided to withdraw the cassation submission.
"On behalf of our clients, Keenan Nasution and Rudi Pekerti, we will withdraw the cassation process currently underway at the Supreme Court," Minola told reporters in South Jakarta, Friday, March 20.
Even though it has been registered, said Minola, the cassation application can be revoked, before the Supreme Court gives a ruling on the matter.
"Is it legally justified? Yes, it is legally justified. It does not automatically stop, but when the cassation applicant or his lawyer wants to withdraw the cassation process, the cassation process can be withdrawn or canceled, as long as there has not been a decision issued by the Supreme Court on the cassation," said Minola.
Furthermore, Minola said that his client also expressed condolences for the death of Vidi Aldiano.
"We were conveyed by our clients, Keenan Nasution and Rudi Pekerti, and their large families, they conveyed their deepest condolences for the passing of the late Vidi Aldiano," he said.
"So it means that on that day when he got the news (Vidi's death), our client also felt sad and directly. Personally, he has also expressed his deepest condolences to Vidi's mother."
Minola also emphasized that the lawsuit filed by his client was not a personal matter, but an effort to defend his rights as a songwriter.
"So, let's end the prolonged polemics related to the 'Nuansa Bening' song. Again, this is not a personal matter but this is a matter of economic rights and moral rights that are fought for by our clients, Keenan Nasution and Rudi Pekerti, in accordance with the provisions of applicable laws," he concluded.
