Menag: Eid is not the end, empathy and concern must continue

JAKARTA - Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar reminded that Eid al-Fitr should not be interpreted as the end of Ramadan. He emphasized that the main value of fasting is seen after it: whether empathy and social concern are really brought into daily life.

The message was conveyed by the Minister of Religion in a statement on Idulfitri 1 Syawal 1447 H in Jakarta, Friday, March 20, 2026. According to the Minister of Religion, fasting is not only to hold hunger and thirst, but also a direct practice to feel the condition of others.

"Fasting is a process of sharpening social sensitivity. Behind the feeling of hunger and thirst, there is a strong message about empathy for others and concern for those who are lacking," said Nasaruddin.

He explained that the echo of takbir which marked the end of Ramadan should not stop as a symbol. For the Minister of Religion, what is more important is whether the values built during the month are still maintained.

"True victory is not merely our return to routine, but the success of keeping the flame of piety alight," he said.

Nasaruddin also highlighted Eid al-Fitr as a starting point to maintain good habits. He said that blessings do not come easily, but are present in those who continue to do and benefit.

Therefore, he invited Muslims to maintain discipline, honesty, and concern that had been trained during Ramadan. These values, he said, should not stop at the holiday.

"Happy Eid al-Fitr 1 Syawal 1447 H. Taqabbalallahu minna wa minkum. I apologize for being born and dying," he said.
