2026 Arus Mudik Surge, Sumo Toll Traffic Up 25.3 Percent

SURABAYA - The volume of traffic on the Surabaya-Mojokerto (Sumo) toll road in East Java increased by 25.3 percent during the H-10 to H-2 period of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah, with a total of 433,227 vehicles entering and leaving Surabaya on March 11-19, 2026.

"There was a significant spike in traffic volume on the Surabaya-Mojokerto Toll Road (Sumo) during this homecoming period, which was dominated by the movement of travelers to their hometowns in various regions of East Java and vice versa," said President Director of PT Jasamarga Surabaya Mojokerto (JSM), D. Hari Pratama, quoted by Antara, Friday, March 20.

PT Jasamarga Surabaya Mojokerto (JSM) recorded in that period the volume of vehicles entering Surabaya through the Warugunung Toll Gate reached 211,568 units, an increase of 18.9 percent compared to the normal condition of 177,924 vehicles.

Meanwhile, vehicles leaving Surabaya were recorded as many as 221,659 units or an increase of 32.2 percent from the normal traffic of 167,743 vehicles.

Hari ensures that optimal services are still provided to road users during the peak period of the 2026 Lebaran homecoming.

According to him, even though the volume of vehicles increased sharply, the V/C ratio (ratio of vehicle volume compared to road capacity) remained within safe limits and queues at toll gates could be properly resolved.

"This shows that the Sumo Toll is increasingly relied on as the main route for smooth homecoming connectivity between regions," he said.

PT Jasamarga Surabaya Mojokerto (JSM) appeals to toll road users to prioritize driving safety by obeying traffic signs, maintaining a safe distance, and following the instructions of officers in the field.

Road users are also reminded to ensure the adequacy of electronic money and fuel balances before entering the toll road to avoid obstacles at the toll gate.
