Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas and dozens of KPK prisoners will pray Eid al-Fitr at the Red and White Building Mosque

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will hold the 1447 Hijriah Eid al-Fitr prayer for prisoners at the KPK Red and White Building Mosque on Saturday, March 21. A total of 67 Muslim prisoners are scheduled to attend this service, including former Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas.

Yaqut is a suspect in the corruption case for determining quotas and organizing the 2023-2024 hajj in the Ministry of Religion. He has been detained at the KPK Detention House (Rutan) since Thursday, March 12.

"Tomorrow, Saturday, March 21, coincides with 1 Syawal 1447 Hijriah, the KPK will hold the Eid al-Fitr prayer," said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters, Friday, March 20.

This Eid al-Fitr prayer will be held from 06.30-08.00 WIB. Budi said this special service was a form of his agency's commitment to upholding human rights (HAM).

After Eid al-Fitr prayers, prisoners are also welcome to receive family visits. The activity started at 10.00 to 13.00 WIB.

However, families can first submit food gifts from 09.00-11.00 WIB. The total number of prisoners currently occupying the KPK Detention Center is 81 people.

"(The details, ed) 41 people from the KPK Red and White Building (K4) Detention Center and 40 people from the C1 KPK Detention Center," said Budi.

The family is expected to be able to meet the prisoners but according to the rules. "This visitation service is not only a meeting room between prisoners and families, but also has a humanitarian and spiritual dimension," said Budi.

"The presence of the family is expected to provide moral and emotional support, as well as strengthen religious values which are an important part of the process of self-reflection for prisoners," he concluded.
