Trump asks Netanyahu not to attack Iranian gas fields again

JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump admitted that he had asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to attack oil and gas fields in Iran.

"Yes, I have warned him (Netanyahu) not to do that, and he won't do it," Trump told reporters, quoted by Sputnik, Friday, March 20.

Trump also said he still got along with the head of the Israeli authorities.

Earlier on Wednesday (18/3), the Tasnim news agency reported that Israel and the United States had attacked energy facilities in the South Pars gas field, Iran's largest, and the Asaluyeh industrial zone, where gas is processed.

The fire was reported in Asaluyeh after storage tanks and processing facilities were hit.

Trump said the same day that the United States did not know of Israel's plans to carry out the attack.

The US and Israel began attacking Iran on February 28, causing damage and many civilian casualties, as well as killing Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran then carried out retaliatory attacks in Israeli territory, as well as a number of US military targets in the Middle East.

The attacks, which the US and Israel call necessary precautions to counter the perceived threat of Iran's nuclear program, but they quickly made it clear that they wanted to see a change of power in Iran.
