Start Living Greener, Check Out How to Recycle Plastic Waste at Home
JAKARTA - The problem of plastic waste is still a big challenge for all of us. Based on the World Bank's projections, the volume of plastic waste in Indonesia in 2025 is predicted to reach 9.9 to 12.4 million tons per year.
However, that doesn't mean we can't do anything. The trend of environmentally friendly lifestyles is no longer just a bandwagon, but has become a necessity to create a healthier home environment. Starting small steps from the kitchen can be the key to big changes for the earth.
This inspires the Ajinomoto Group Indonesia to carry out various environmental initiatives through Ajinomoto Health Provider. The goal is simple, namely to create sustainable welfare for humans and the earth.
Choose Packaging that is More Environmentally Friendly
The easiest step we can take as consumers is to be more discerning in choosing products with packaging that is easy to recycle. Currently, there are many packaging innovations that use more environmentally friendly materials.
For example, the use of paper-based packaging (paper packaging) which is able to cut plastic use by up to 30 percent. There are also innovations in mono-material packaging that are more efficient and easy to process. By choosing products like these, indirectly we have contributed to reducing thousands of tons of plastic waste that ends up in landfills.
Don't Just Throw It Away, Let's Start Sorting the Garbage!
Sustainable lifestyles are also closely related to how we manage residual consumption at home. Sorting organic, inorganic, and residual waste is now a mandatory skill for modern society.
To make this easier, collaboration with various waste management startups such as waste station facilities is now beginning to mushroom, especially in big cities such as Jakarta, Bekasi, to Surabaya. The presence of this facility makes it easier for us to deposit waste that has been neatly sorted.
In fact, several waste bank and TPS 3R (Reuse, Reduce, Recycle) initiatives not only help the environment to be cleaner, but also provide economic impact for the community through an organized waste collection scheme.
Education is the Key to Healthy Lifestyle
Awareness of the importance of a clean environment is the foundation for a healthy family. Through various educational programs such as Greenducation, the public is invited to better understand the impact of multi-layer plastic waste on the environment.
This education targets many layers, ranging from schoolchildren, housewives' communities, to warung owners. The goal is one: to build new habits in separating waste so that it can be recycled into more useful products.
"We hope that this initiative can contribute to creating a cleaner and healthier Indonesia. We also want to encourage more responsible behavior and inspire more parties to collaborate sustainably," said Grant Senjaya, Head of Corporate Communication - PT Ajinomoto Indonesia.
Taking care of the earth cannot be done alone. However, by starting with small steps such as choosing wise packaging and routinely sorting waste, we are preparing a brighter future for future generations.
