Gold Sales Trend Increases Ahead of Eid

JAKARTA - The trend of selling gold jewelry at a number of stores in Jakarta increased ahead of Lebaran 1447 Hijriah/2026 Masehi, in line with the public's need to meet the Raya shopping and various other needs at that time.

One of the owners of Bukit Emas Shop in the Cikini Gold Center area, Jakarta, Juwita said that the trend of gold sales began to increase about two weeks before Lebaran, with the number of sellers coming in increasing every day.

"There are quite a lot of people who come to sell gold jewelry. It seems that two weeks before Lebaran, it has started to be crowded," said Juwita when met by ANTARA on the sidelines of serving prospective gold buyers in Jakarta, Thursday, March 19.

He said that the increase was quite crowded compared to ordinary days, because many people use gold as an asset that can be liquidated to meet the needs ahead of Eid.

According to him, the Eid moment is often used by the public to sell gold jewelry for various purposes, including shopping for Eid necessities to preparing events after Eid such as wedding plans or other activities.

"This is a moment of Eid, so people will definitely want to do shopping like that. Then usually after the Eid moments, people are said to be good for marriage or what, so it's quite crowded (people selling gold)," he said.

The types of gold sold are also diverse, ranging from jewelry such as rings, bracelets, and necklaces, to gold bars which are also sold by some people to gold shops.

In one day, Juwita estimates that there are around four to five people who come to sell their gold, with the trend continuing to increase towards the Lebaran holiday.

He assessed that this phenomenon is a routine that occurs every year, especially before Lebaran, where people tend to use gold as a financial reserve that is easy to liquidate.

"If in moments like Eid, it is routine (people sell gold jewelry), usually so," said Juwita.

Similarly, Rangga, one of the employees of a gold shop in the Cikini Gold Center area, revealed that the trend of gold sales increased ahead of Lebaran as the community's need to meet various needs before the holiday increased.

He said that currently the activity of selling gold by the community is quite crowded, with many residents coming to the store to sell their gold to get additional cash.

In one day, Rangga estimates that the number of people who come to sell gold can reach around ten people, increasing compared to normal days outside the period leading up to Eid.

He also compared this year's conditions with the previous year, where in the same period more people bought gold than sold it.

"The trend is again, again many (residents) sell (gold). It can be up to 10 people. If last year many bought," Rangga told ANTARA.

According to him, the types of gold sold by the public are quite diverse, both in the form of jewelry and gold bars, which shows the liquidity needs of various people in society today.

"Usually the gold sold is mixed (jewelry and bars). This has been happening for 10 days before Lebaran," explained Rangga.

Rangga added that the trend of increasing gold sales began to be seen about ten days before Lebaran, and became a quite striking phenomenon compared to the previous period.
