MBZ Flyover Toll Reopens After Being Closed for 1.5 Hours due to Severe Traffic
JAKARTA - The National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas) temporarily closed the Mohamed Bin Zayed or MBZ toll road on Thursday afternoon due to the increasing vehicle volume and causing traffic congestion.
"This year is a little different because we had to temporarily close MBZ. Because we have done one way nationally, but the peak of the current is still high," said Head of the Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas) Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho at the KM 29 Toll Cikampek Command Center, West Java, Thursday, March 19.
He said, based on data, the total volume of vehicles as of Thursday morning reached 270 thousand vehicles.
The number, he said, increased compared to the number of vehicles on Tuesday (17/3) which was 221 thousand.
Therefore, various traffic engineering is applied, including temporarily closing the MBZ toll road. Travelers must also use the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road below it.
After being closed for about 1.5 hours, he said the MBZ toll road could now be used again.
"MBZ we closed for almost 1.5 hours. Because the steps from the kontraflows have been completed, of course we open again and thank God it is now smooth," he said.
Previously, PT Jasamarga Jalanlayang Cikampek (JJC) stated that as many as 63,275 vehicles were observed leaving Jakarta towards Cikampek via the MBZ Toll on Tuesday (17/3).
Based on traffic data, the volume of vehicles leaving Jakarta increased by 200.54 percent compared to the normal daily traffic condition of 21,054 vehicles.
