Minister of Finance Purbaya Reveals the Ministry is Difficult to Cut, the Government is Preparing Cuts from the Center

JAKARTA - The government has carried out government budget efficiency. The problem is, according to Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, many ministries do not want to cut their own budgets.

At the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta, Thursday, March 19, Minister of Finance Purbaya said that the proposed efficiency was being discussed by the Ministry of Finance together with the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy. However, when the ministry was asked to choose which budget it could cut, the results were not as expected.

"If you ask like that, I don't want to cut it, he will raise everything," said Purbaya.

Therefore, the government is now opening the possibility of directly determining the amount of the cut from the center. After the figure is determined, the ministry just adjusts it.

"If I can, I will cut it, I will adjust it later. Later we will talk," he said.

Purbaya has not said how much the cut is being prepared. However, when asked whether efficiency could reach salaries, including civil servant salaries, he gave a short but striking answer.

"Oh that's good. If the salary is good," he said.

For now, what needs to be suppressed is spending that can be postponed. Purbaya gave an example of a meeting that was unclear, or a policy that had a small and slow impact on economic growth.

"Later we will ask them to cut budgets that can be postponed temporarily," he said.
