Djarum Group owner Michael Bambang Hartono dies

JAKARTA - Djarum Group Chairman Michael Bambang Hartono died on Thursday at 13.15 Singapore time.

"The Djarum Group family deeply mourns the death of our leader, Mr. Michael Bambang Hartono, Thursday, March 19, 2026 at 13.15 Singapore time," said Senior Group Corporate Communication Manager Djarum Budi Darmawandilansir ANTARA, Thursday, March 19.

Djarum Group management is still waiting for information from the family regarding information on the location of the funeral home and the time of the funeral.

"Regarding the information about the funeral home and the funeral, we are waiting for the family's information," he said.

Michael Bambang Hartono is the head and owner of the large cigarette company Djarum.

He is the son of Oei Wie Gwan who is the founder of PT Djarum in Kudus, Central Java.

After Oei Wie Gwan died in 1963, Bambang and his brother, Robert Budi Hartono, built the Djarum company to become one of the giant companies whose cigarette products managed to reach various foreign markets.

Bambang and Budi are two conglomerates who are on the list of the richest people in Indonesia. Bambang is also known as one of the shareholders of the largest private banks in Indonesia and also a national athlete for the bridge sport.
