Not Enough Executioner, The Intellectual Mastermind of the Hard Water Sprinkling Andrie Yunus Must Be Arrested

Member of the House of Representatives Mafirion asked law enforcement officials to uncover the intellectual actors behind the water attack on the Deputy Coordinator for External Affairs of KontraS Andrie Yunus.

Mafirion said the insistence arose after the Commander of the TNI Military Police Center (Puspom) revealed that the four suspected perpetrators of the attack were members of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS).

"Without revealing who is in charge and what the motives behind the action are, law enforcement will only touch the surface without solving the root of the problem," he said, quoted by ANTARRA, Thursday, March 19.

He also appreciated the courage of the TNI to reveal the involvement of its members and reminded that the legal process should not stop at the perpetrators of the field.

"We appreciate the disclosure of the perpetrators. However, handling this case should not stop at the field perpetrators alone. The apparatus must uncover who the intellectual actors are and openly reveal the motives for this act of violence. Substantive justice can only be achieved if the control center is uncovered," he said.

The involvement of state intelligence members in the attack on human rights defenders, said Mafirion, is a danger alarm for Indonesian democracy.

He suspected a systematic attempt to silence humanitarian advocacy work through organized terror practices.

"The fact that the perpetrator comes from a state institution shows that there is still a real threat to human rights enforcement from the party who should be the protector. The motive must be opened, is this a form of structured intimidation against activists? The state must not lose to the practice of terror that threatens civil liberties," he said.

Mafirion said that if the country failed to touch the "hands" behind the public perpetrators, the public would continue to question the government's commitment to protecting its citizens.

Therefore, he asked that the perpetrators be given the heaviest sentence to provide a strong deterrent effect for anyone who intends to damage the democratic space.

"It's time for the state to show courage, not just procedures. The apparatus must trace who is in charge, financed, and benefited. If it fails to reveal the mastermind, then the public has the right to ask: what is behind the silence of power? Justice must not stop at the surface," said Mafirion.
