BEM IPB Gives Jokowi-JK a Red Report in Today's History, March 19, 2015
History today, 11 years ago, March 19, 2015, the Student Executive Board (BEM) of the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) gave the Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Jusuf Kalla (JK) administrations a red report. The condition was because Jokowi-JK was considered not able to improve the people's living standards.
Previously, the presence of Jokowi - JK as the new President-Vice President brought hope. Both of them are considered able to improve the living conditions of the people.
t Indonesia. Bahkan kemudian pemerintahan keduanya justru jauh dari ekspektasi banyak orang.
Jokowi's presence in the Indonesian political map brings a new color. Jokowi's simplicity and unique style of blusukan are able to attract the hearts of all Indonesian people. This makes him considered to have succeeded as Mayor of Surakarta (2005-2012), then Governor of DKI Jakarta (2012-2014).
The special figure of Jokowi is beginning to be seen as the future leader of Indonesia. Jokowi is encouraged to run as a presidential candidate in the 2014 presidential election. The desire was then welcomed. The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) tried to nominate Jokowi as a presidential candidate.
This condition made Jokowi then paired with veteran politician, JK. JK's experience as Vice President in the first period of the Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) government is considered capable of raising Jokowi's voice.
Sure enough. The Jokowi-JK pair was able to excel in various surveys. The owner of the jargon Jokowi-JK is predicted to win. Moreover, his opponent at that time was Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa. Prabowo himself is seen as a figure with a past stain.
This condition made Jokowi-JK begin to reveal political promises to increase the aspirations of the Indonesian people. Massive development, clean ministry ranks, human rights protection, to eradicating corruption.
The narrative brought Jokowi-JK elected as President and Vice President of Indonesia in the 2014-2019 era. All Indonesian people welcomed him with great enthusiasm. They are waiting for Jokowi-JK's impact - especially in fighting corruption.
However, the desire was far from successful in the first 100 days of the administration on January 28, 2015. Many considered the second 100 days as a bad honeymoon.
"The honeymoon is very short, not because of the time alone, but also because our expectations are so great. The effect and the level of surprise we (on Jokowi's policies) are so great, and the effect is big. Although the expectations for Jokowi are so high, besides because of his figure, also during the last presidential election he communicated Nawacita so beautifully: law enforcement, human rights protection, eradication and others."
"In addition, the problem is that the effects of Jokowi's controversial policies are very large. The execution of a number of death row inmates, even though his predecessor actually carried out a moratorium on the death penalty. Then the submission of the candidate for the National Police Chief is problematic followed by political and legal chaos until now. The effect is very bad," said researcher from the Center for Legal and Policy Studies, Bivitri Susanti as quoted by BBC Indonesia, January 28, 2015.
Criticism of the Jokowi-JK government does not only come from experts. Students also voiced criticism. Take the example of the IPB BEM on March 19, 2015. The IPB BEM considered the Jokowi-JK government had failed to improve the people's living standards.
Jokowi-JK is considered the culprit of the rising prices of basic commodities and the weakening of the rupiah. Jokowi's promise to eradicate corruption is also questionable because there is an issue of criminalization of the KPK. As a result, the BEM IPB gave the Jokowi and JK government a red report. Alias the government has not worked optimally.
"We give Jokowi a red report in leading this country. We give him time until May 20, 2015, which coincides with National Awakening Day, so that Jokowi can improve the state of the country. If not, then the 1998 event will be repeated. This action is the beginning of an ultimatum to President Jokowi," said the President of the BEM IPB, Mochamad Afif Azhar, as quoted by the kompas.com page, March 19, 2015.
