Qatar Condemns Israeli Attack on Joint Iranian-Operated Gas Field

JAKARTA - The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned Israel's attack on their main gas field with Iran. Israel's attack is called "a dangerous and irresponsible step."

"Israel's targeting of facilities related to Iran's South Pars field, an extension of Qatar's North Field, is a dangerous and irresponsible step amid the current military escalation in the region," said Qatar's Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al-Ansari, on the X platform, reported by ANTARA from Sputnik, Thursday, March 19.

He warned that attacks on energy infrastructure were a "threat to global energy security, and the people in the region and their environment".

The Qatari Foreign Ministry urged the conflicting parties to avoid attacks on vital infrastructure, refrain from it, comply with international law, and take steps to ease the crisis in the region.

Earlier that day, the Tasnim news agency reported that Israel and the United States attacked energy facilities in the South Pars gas field, Iran's largest. They also attacked the Asaluyeh industrial zone, which is the location of gas processing.

The fire was reported in Asaluyeh after storage tanks and processing facilities were hit.
