PAM Jaya Targets All DKI Jakarta to Have Access to Clean Water by 2029

PAM Jaya targets all areas in DKI Jakarta to have 100 percent access to clean water services by 2029 so that it needs to be accelerated to realize it.

"Acceleration of piped water services is a strategic step to answer environmental challenges and the needs of the people of Jakarta," said Strategic & Business Director of PAM JAYA, Anugrah Esa, in Jakarta, Wednesday.

He emphasized that PAM Jaya's target is to ensure that all residents of Jakarta have access to decent piped water by 2029.

He added that this acceleration is not only related to public services, but also supports the achievement of global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or sustainable development programs, especially access to clean water and sanitation.

In addition, the use of piped water is expected to be able to reduce the exploitation of groundwater, which has been the main cause of land subsidence in Jakarta.

He explained that to achieve the 2029 target, PAM Jaya has prepared a number of strategic steps, including expanding the scope of services to reach all areas of Jakarta.

Then add about two million new customers and carry out the revitalization of the pipeline network gradually.

His party has also made innovations such as water purifiers and reduced the use of disposable plastic.

According to him, with these various efforts, PAM JAYA is optimistic that the target of 100 percent clean water services can be achieved faster than the initial plan.

"This step is expected to not only improve the quality of life of the community, but also maintain the sustainability of the environment in Jakarta," he said.

He said one innovation that was introduced was the use of water filtration technology or "water purifier".

According to him, the water processed from the PAM Jaya installation actually meets drinking water standards according to the regulations of the Ministry of Health.

However, the age of the pipe causes the quality of water to decrease when it reaches the customer's home.

"This water purifier is an intermediate solution and with this tool, tap water can be drunk directly without having to buy bottled water so it is more economical and environmentally friendly," he said.
