Meta Stops Horizon Worlds on VR Devices, Turning to Mobile Devices
JAKARTA - Meta Platform Inc announced it would gradually stop supporting Horizon Worlds on Meta Quest VR devices throughout 2026.
In an announcement on its official website, the tech giant said the end of support was part of the company's strategy to separate its VR platform and Horizon and shift experiences to mobile devices.
Starting March 31, 2026, Horizon Worlds and Events features will no longer be available in the Quest app store. A number of virtual worlds such as Horizon Central, Events Arena, Kaiju, and Bobber Bay will also be discontinued from VR access on that date.
"You can still enter your other favorite worlds in VR until June 15, 2026, after which the Horizon Worlds app will be removed from Quest, and Worlds will no longer be available in VR," Meta wrote.
But after June 15, the Horizon Worlds app will be completely removed from the Quest device and can no longer be used in VR mode.
Meta will shift the experience to the Meta Horizon app, which presents a virtual world that has been optimized for mobile devices.
In addition, Meta also announced changes to the Hyperscape Capture (Beta) feature.
Starting March 24, 2026, the feature to view Hyperscape capture results will be moved from Horizon Worlds to a separate application.
While users can still create new captures, sharing features, invitations, and the shared experience will no longer be supported.
Finally, starting March 31, 2026, various special benefits from Meta Horizon Plus subscription services - such as Meta Credits, digital clothing, avatars, and in-virtual world purchases - will be removed.
"We continue to invest to improve your Quest experience," the company concluded.
