Dozens of Tons of Water Pipes that are Stacked on Empty Land Suddenly Burned, Allegedly Due to Hot Weather Temperatures
JAKARTA - A pile of water pipes weighing dozens of tons and optical cables located on the vacant land of Jalan Dato Tonggara, Kramat Jati District, East Jakarta, caught fire on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.
The fire is suspected to have originated from a cigarette butt and the hot weather then caused the fire to ignite and expand.
The fire incident was first known by residents who saw the fire, then it grew from a pile of PDAM water pipes.
In addition to causing billions in losses, the impact of the fire also injured a resident while putting out the fire.
"The fire was extinguished at around 14.45 WIB with the deployment of 10 fire trucks," said Kasiop Sudin Gulkarmat East Jakarta, Abdul Wahid.
The fire extinguishing process was carried out by 55 East Jakarta fire personnel. Later it was found that the land belonged to PT Abinaya.
"The area of the burning object is around 600 square meters," he said.
As a result of the fire, a 3-kilometer traffic jam occurred from Cililitan to HEK, Kramat Jati.
