UI Professor Says Parents' Role Is the Key to the Successful Implementation of PP Tunas

Guru Besar Universitas Indonesia, Rose Mini Agoes Salim, emphasized that the implementation of the Government Regulation on Child Protection Governance in the Digital Space (PP Tunas) and its derivatives, must be accompanied by strengthening the role of parents and moral education of children from an early age.

In a discussion with Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid and other experts, Rose Mini emphasized that the role of parents is very crucial in keeping children in the digital space.

According to him, with the condition of parents in Indonesia which is very diverse, both in terms of education and socio-economics, all parties including parents must increase their digital literacy so that the implementation of PP Tunas is successful.

He said that there was actually technology on digital platforms that allowed parental control, such as limiting access time to monitoring activities.

However, the lack of understanding of parents makes this feature not yet optimally utilized.

"Many parents are not literate in technology, while children are more knowledgeable. This is what makes supervision weak," he said, quoted Wednesday, March 18.

Furthermore, he emphasized that child protection in the digital space is not enough with regulation, but must be built on a moral foundation from an early age.

Because, according to him, character formation is a derivative of moral values that are taught consistently in daily life.

Rose Mini emphasized that the success of PP Tunas depends heavily on collaboration between the government, schools, and families.

He invited educational institutions to play a role in improving digital literacy and strengthening children's character.

"This PP Tunas is very helpful, but parents and schools must also be activated. Otherwise, children will continue to look for loopholes," he concluded.
