Teacher Competency is the Key to the Success of PP TUNAS
Member of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Abdul Fikri Faqih, asked educational institutions to adjust immediately before the policy on social media restrictions for children under the age of 16 (PP TUNAS) was implemented on March 28.
According to him, teachers cannot justify being technologically illiterate due to age factors because the success of the implementation of PP Number 17 of 2025 depends heavily on the competence of educators.
"Don't let it be because 'I'm a colonialist, I was in the past' like that, so it's not his generation. It can't be like that now, because everything must be introduced, must be familiar, must be able to adapt," said Fikri in his statement, Wednesday, March 18.
He explained that there were three points of synchronization that must be carried out by educational institutions. First, intensive training for teachers regarding digital safety.
Second, expanding the role of Guidance and Counseling (BK) teachers to handle digital conflicts and cyberbullying. Third, encourage students to become productive content creators.
"This transformation of students is important because it must change the mindset of students from merely being passive consumers of algorithms to being ethical and productive content creators," he added.
This PKS faction politician revealed that the Minister of Communication and Information Number 9 of 2026 which regulates large platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Roblox is required to gradually deactivate the accounts of children under 16 years of age is a state measure to protect children from the effects of addictive digital algorithms.
"Now the government is present so that parents no longer have to fight alone against the power of algorithms," said Fikri.
He also added that schools must transform into a consultation center for students who face problems in cyberspace.
The reason is that even though access to the platform is limited, digital literacy remains a determining factor.
"How do we make this digital ecosystem safe, the government has made regulations. Schools and teachers must be facilitators of literacy that integrate digital safety in supervision," said Fikri.
