Dialogue with GCC, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Urges Iran to Stop Attacking Gulf States
JAKARTA - Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha urged Iran to stop attacking countries in the Gulf region during a dialogue with the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Albudaiwi.
Through the telephone line, they discussed developments in the region amid the war between the United States and Israel against Iran.
As reported by ANTARA from SPA-OANA, Tuesday, March 17, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister confirmed his country's support for the GCC countries following Iran's attacks on their territory.
Sybiha also stressed the importance of Iran ending military attacks against GCC countries and that all forms of escalation should be immediately ended.
Albudaiwi welcomed Ukraine's move in supporting and sponsoring United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2817 which condemned Iran's attacks on the GCC countries as well as Jordan.
The Secretary-General of Albudaiwi also emphasized the GCC's stance on the Russia-Ukraine war was based on the principles of international law and the UN Charter.
These principles include state sovereignty, territorial integrity, political independence, non-intervention in internal affairs, and refraining from the use or threat of force.
On the same occasion, Foreign Minister Sybiha and Secretary General Albudaiwi also discussed efforts to strengthen cooperation between Ukraine and the GCC to meet common interests.
