Bantargebang is getting more and more crisis, Pramono said it's time for Jakarta residents to sort out their garbage

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung admitted that the capacity of the Bantargebang TPST was increasingly limited in accommodating waste from the Capital City. This condition is exacerbated by the landslide incident that occurred in recent times, thus hindering the management of Jakarta waste.

Pramono said that changes in waste management patterns must be carried out immediately, one of which is by encouraging people to sort waste from its source.

According to him, the limited capacity of Bantargebang makes the open dumping system or the accumulation of waste without sorting, in the near future, can no longer be maintained.

"Indeed, we will immediately prepare for the people of Jakarta later, whether we like it or not, we have to start getting used to sorting garbage. Because indeed, the limitations of Bantargebang are impossible, then all the garbage is managed like yesterday," said Pramono at the National Monument (Monas) area, Tuesday, March 17.

Pramono also invited the public to start getting used to sorting garbage in everyday life. He detailed four categories of garbage that need to be separated by residents. First, easily degradable garbage that can be processed into compost.

"Second, recyclable waste, such as plastic, paper, and metal, which can be channeled to waste banks. Third, B3 waste or hazardous and toxic materials. Fourth, residual waste that cannot be reprocessed," explained Pramono.

Pramono hopes that this step can become a new habit for residents to reduce the burden of waste management in Jakarta.

The DKI Provincial Government is also preparing regional regulations to strengthen this policy. The rules will later bind the community in implementing waste sorting to improve environmental quality.

"We will immediately socialize and later there will be a regulation (governor's regulation) or regulation (regional regulation) that regulates it so that there is something binding," said Pramono.

On the downstream side, the DKI Provincial Government together with the central government through BPI Danantara is preparing the construction of a waste processing facility into electricity. This is a solution to reduce the volume of Jakarta waste sent to the Bantargebang Waste Treatment Plant.

This waste-to-energy power plant (PLTSa) project will be built around Bantargebang, Bekasi; the Sunter area, North Jakarta; and Tunjungan, North Jakarta.

In addition, the waste processing facility into fuel or refuse derived fuel (RDF) in Rorotan will also be fully operational soon.

"We will also operate the Rorotan RDF, and now it has been finalized to be carried out not only commissioning, but also comprehensive operations. It is just in accordance with the input of public suggestions in Rorotan, the capacity is not like what was done in the initial planning," said Pramono.

"It also undergoes correction so that it does not smell and does not have an environmental impact for residents in the surrounding area," he continued.
