28 Percent of 3.5 Million Vehicles for the Homecoming Have Left Jakarta

JAKARTA - Head of the National Police Traffic Corps Agus Suryonugroho said that as of Monday, March 16 or the fourth day of the 2026 Ketupat Operation, about 28 percent of the vehicles of travelers had left Jakarta.

"From the projection of 3.5 million vehicles that will leave Jakarta to Trans Java, West Java to Cikupa, Banten, to Sumatra, until now 28 percent have left Jakarta," said Agus at the KM 57A Rest Area of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road, Monday night.

He explained that the projection of vehicles leaving Jakarta during the Lebaran homecoming this year reached around 3.5 million units to various regions, ranging from the Trans Java route, West Java, to Banten and crossing to Sumatra.

Agus emphasized that the implementation of Ketupat Operation was not only focused on traffic security during the homecoming and return flow. The operation is also aimed at ensuring security during the series of Ramadan activities until Eid al-Fitr.

"Ketupat operations are not only traffic operations, but the state, the National Police, and stakeholders are present to ensure that the series of Ramadan, Idulfitri, and Nyepi activities run safely," he said.

According to him, security includes two main aspects, namely maintaining public security and order as well as security, safety, order, and traffic flow.

"Safe in the field of harkamtibmas and safe in the field of kamseltibcarlantas. So these two social and spiritual moments must be maintained so that the community can carry out worship with devotion and be served well," he said.

In this year's Ketupat Operation, the National Police also prepared five main security clusters.

The first cluster is the toll road lane which is predicted to be a point of vehicle density, including rest areas, road bottlenecks, and the implementation of traffic engineering such as contraflow and one way.

The second cluster includes arterial roads or national roads, including alternative routes leading to various tourist destinations.

The third cluster is the crossing port area such as Gilimanuk, Ketapang, and the Merak-Bakauheni track which is the main route to the island of Sumatra.

In addition, bus terminals, airports, and train stations are also part of the security because they are the main transportation hubs for people who travel home.

The fourth cluster includes places of worship, especially mosques that will be used for the implementation of Eid al-Fitr prayers as well as locations for takbir activities.

Meanwhile, the last cluster is a tourist area that usually experiences a surge in public visits before and after Eid al-Fitr.

"Usually, before Eid al-Fitr, there are many tourist attractions that will be visited and we have prepared their security, both in West Java, Central Java, East Java, and outside Java," said Agus.
